For rooms 200 square feet or less, use a 36 inch to 52 inch fan. To cool rooms 200 to 400 sq. ft. a 52 inch will do. A room any larger will require two or more fans.

After cooling off in the summer, a great way to save energy is to reverse the fan in the winter to circulate the warm air that collects at the ceiling.
